How to Get Your Instagram Link (Profile, Post, Reel and QR Code)

Your Instagram link is instagram.com/yourusername, with your handle in place of "yourusername" and no @. In the app, you can copy it from Profile, Share profile. On a computer, open your profile and copy the address bar. For a single post or reel, tap the Send icon below it and choose Copy link.

That's the short version. Below are the exact steps for each case: your profile link on iPhone, Android and a computer, the link to a post or reel, someone else's profile, your Instagram QR code for in-person sharing, and the details that break links (a username change, a private account, a typo). Steps reflect Instagram as of October 2026. Labels can vary slightly by app version.

Every Instagram profile has the same simple address:

instagram.com/yourusername

If your handle is @maria.ceramics, your link is instagram.com/maria.ceramics. Adding https://www. in front works too, and most apps turn it into a tappable link either way.

That means you can always build your link by hand if a menu moves. Double-check the spelling, since one wrong letter sends people to someone else or to an error page. Periods and underscores count: maria.ceramics and maria_ceramics are different accounts.

Posts and reels have their own links, which look different (they include a code for that specific post). Those are covered further down.

In person, a QR code beats spelling out a link. Print it on a card and people scan it in a second.

The app has a dedicated share screen for your profile:

  1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap Share profile below your bio.
  3. Your profile QR code opens. On that screen you'll find options to copy the link to your profile or share it straight to another app.

Choose copy to paste the link anywhere: a message, an email, a document, a form. Choose share to send it directly through WhatsApp, Messages, email or another installed app.

If the button looks different on your phone, look for the share or QR option on your own profile. Instagram moves these buttons from time to time, but the profile share screen has stayed close to your bio. And if you can't find it at all, type instagram.com/ plus your username. That's the same link.

Links copied from the app sometimes include extra characters after a question mark, used for sharing data. Your profile opens fine without them. For a business card, a résumé or an email signature, delete everything from the question mark onward, or just type instagram.com/yourusername.

On a computer, the quickest way is the address bar:

  1. Go to instagram.com and log in.
  2. Click your profile picture in the menu to open your profile.
  3. Click the address bar of your browser and copy the URL.

That URL is your profile link. The same works in a mobile browser: open your profile at instagram.com and copy the address. Instagram's Help Center also shows how to find your profile QR code on a computer: open your profile, click Settings at the top, then click QR code.

How to get the link to an Instagram post or reel

Sometimes you don't want your whole profile, just one post: the reel that's going around, a product photo, a carousel you want to send a client. According to Instagram's Help Center:

In the app:

  1. Open the post or reel.
  2. Tap the Send icon (the paper plane) below the photo or video. On reels it's usually on the side of the screen.
  3. Tap Copy link.

On a computer:

  1. Open the post on instagram.com.
  2. Click Options (three dots) next to the post.
  3. Click Copy link.

One important rule from Instagram: if the account that posted is private, only that account's followers can see the content through the link. Everyone else lands on a locked profile. If you're sharing your own post with people who don't follow you, your account needs to be public.

Need to share a post on your website instead of linking to it? Instagram's Help Center says posts and reels from public accounts can also be embedded on blogs and articles with an embed code.

Want to send a friend's profile or credit a creator?

  1. Open their profile.
  2. Tap the menu button (three dots) at the top right.
  3. Choose the option to share or copy the profile URL. The exact wording may vary by app version.

Or build it by hand: instagram.com/ followed by their username. On a computer, open their profile and copy the address bar.

Use your Instagram QR code in person

When you're face to face, a link is clumsy. Your profile QR code is faster. According to Instagram's Help Center, tapping Share profile below your bio shows your QR code, and you can customize it: touch the screen or tap the button at the top to switch Color, choose an Emoji design, or use Selfie to try different selfie stickers.

Others scan it with their phone camera or from Instagram, and your profile opens. You can save the image or take a screenshot to print it on a flyer, a table sign or a business card. Our guide on where to place your creator QR code has ideas for both offline and online spots.

  • You changed your username. The link is built from your handle, so if you rename your account, any old link you posted stops pointing to you. Update every place you shared it.
  • The account is private. People who open the link can see your profile, but only approved followers see your posts.
  • There's a typo. One missing period or underscore is a different account, or no account at all.
  • The post was deleted or archived. A post link only works while the post is visible.
  • Extra characters broke it. If a pasted link was cut in the middle, delete everything after the username (or after the post code) and try again.

Once copied, the link is useful in more places than people think:

  • Email signature and newsletter footer
  • WhatsApp or Telegram status and group descriptions
  • Your website footer or "About" page
  • Bios on other platforms, like TikTok or YouTube
  • Event pages, podcast show notes and press kits
  • Job applications and portfolios, if your Instagram shows your work

Here's the catch with sharing only your Instagram link: Instagram is rarely the only place you want people to go. You also have a shop, a YouTube channel, a WhatsApp number for orders, a booking page or a newsletter. Sharing five separate links in an email signature or a podcast note gets messy, and people pick one at random.

A link-in-bio page solves it with a single address. With VISU, you get a page at visu.to/yourname that holds your Instagram as a social icon plus every other link you choose, in your order. You share that one address everywhere, and it points to all of your channels. When you launch something new, you update the page and the address you already shared stays the same.

A few practical details:

  • Use the same username. If you can claim the same name you use on Instagram, people only need to remember one handle.
  • Copy and share in one tap. Your VISU page has its own share and copy link option, plus a VISU QR code linked to your profile that every account gets, so in-person sharing works the same way.
  • See what people tap. VisuLink Analytics shows visits and link clicks, so you can tell whether people who arrive through your shared link head to Instagram, your shop or somewhere else.
  • Start free. The Free plan includes 5 links plus 5 social icons.

Quick checklist

  • Your profile link is instagram.com/yourusername, no @.
  • App: Profile, Share profile, then copy or share the link.
  • Computer: open your profile and copy the address bar.
  • Post or reel: Send icon, Copy link (app) or Options, Copy link (computer).
  • Private account: only followers can see posts through the link.
  • In person: show or print your Instagram QR code.
  • Changed your username? Update every place you shared the old link.
  • Share one link page when people need more than your Instagram.

Getting your Instagram link takes seconds. Making sure the people who use it also find your shop, videos and contact takes one more step. Create your free VISU page and share one address that carries Instagram and everything else you do.
